World Vintage Colours is pleased to announce advance sales of its much anticipated historical football book, looking at the development of the British game. The publication traces the origins of association football in the UK, starting in 1863, the formation of the FA, and chronicles the games pioneers and teams that ultimately spread the football gospel around the world.
Football, as we know, is the world game, Planet Earth’s most popular and much loved sport.
The images in the book are the result of the largest football colourisation project in the UK. Every image within the book started out as black and white and were taken from the original postcards and photographs produced during the pre war era. Through the skill of the WVC colourisers every image has been transformed into glorious colour for the very first time, presented together with accompanying narrative. This is a totally unique look at British football of a long forgotten era.
As many teams of the era will be included within the book; Gainsborough Trinity, Watford, Durham City, Mansfield Town, Linfield, Cardiff City, Torquay United, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City, Spurs, Sunderland, Newcastle United, Woolwich Arsenal, Middlesbrough, Hibs, Hearts, Celtic, Rangers, Vale Of Leven, Renton, Bristol City, Mansfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Chelsea, Brighton – you name it, we will do justice to as many British teams as possible and we will feature the big winners of the big competitions including The FA Cup, Scottish Cup, the original World Championship and League titles. We will also feature the star players of the day, including the worlds first professional footballer, the FA Cup’s record goalscorer and cultural icons such as Everton’s Dixie Dean.
It is anticipated that we will take delivery of the approved copies sometime in February 2021. The book will be hardback, it will carry an ISBN number, it will be around 200 pages of glorious colour, with every page A4 landscape and carries a dedication to perhaps the worlds greatest ever footballer; in other words it is a book of the highest quality.
With colourised images of originals that are up to 158 years old This could be THE football book to acquire in 2021 and it will be reviewed by the top football magazines in the UK.
Our colourisations have had wonderful reviews from BBC Scotland (who are using some of our colourisations as the backdrop to their studio coverage of the 2020/21 Scottish Cup competition), and When Saturday Comes. In February 2021 we are arranging for our work to be featured by one of the UK’s top football publishers in a podcast where we will be discussing this book project and our personal footballing memories.
The book retails at £39.99 with postage and packing at £4.
