Everton 1881/82 - Club Colours Series
Everton F.C. — 1881/82
Club Colours Series
This print captures Everton at a formative moment in their history, when identity was expressed not through crests or commercial branding, but through colour, cut, and collective purpose.
During the 1881/82 season, Everton F.C. were still emerging as a serious force in the developing game. Based at Stanley Park and operating outside the newly codified league system, the club was nonetheless already distinctive. The dark shirt with its bold red diagonal sash marked Everton out instantly on the field, a striking and unusual design in an era when football kits were still heavily influenced by rugby and athletic wear.
This image is not about a named star, but about the club itself. The player’s controlled posture, heavy leather ball, lace-up boots and plain stockings reflect the realities of early association football: grounded, physical, and disciplined. The industrial backdrop places Everton firmly within the working landscape of north Liverpool, subtly reinforcing the social roots from which the club grew.
Produced as part of the Club Colours Series, this artwork focuses on historical accuracy and restraint. Every element has been carefully researched and rendered to reflect the period faithfully, celebrating Everton’s visual identity at a time when the club was still becoming what it would one day be.
A study in heritage rather than nostalgia, this print preserves the colours that defined Everton before leagues, silverware, and stadiums — when football was still finding its shape, and Everton were already finding theirs.
